Resulta gracioso como esa mezcla que hubiera parecido tan irreverente, tan multicultural hace años, ahora parece esquemática, segura, predecible, completamente aburrida. Al mirar la lista en la página de la BBC, había un link a una sesión de Adele cantando y haciendo una versión. Pincho y descubro (y oigo): “Last Night” de los Strokes. Además descubro que le gusta Kanye West (pero que ella no haría la comparación de alguna cosa o persona diciendo que es “dope”). También los White Stripes. En realidad se lo preguntaba la entrevistadora. Era el programa de Jo Whiley. ¿Me debería indignar por la existencia de un mundo tan avanzado, tan culto, tan amplio de miras como estrecho de referencias? ¿Me pica nada más el hecho de que no sean los “míos”? ¿Tiene alguna importancia o validez tal argumento (más allá de la adolescencia)?

Al mirar en Billboard esta semana en que puesto estaba la canción de Chris Brown, comprobé que tenía dos singles entre los 10 primeros. El de arriba en el 9, este en el 4:

En el comentario del quien fuera que mandase el vídeo, comentaba que la canción estaba producida por Stargate y entonces citaba algunas otras producciones de los chicos noruegos: “Irreplaceable” de Beyonce, “Hate that I love you” de Rihanna con Ne-Yo, “Sexy Love” de Ne-Yo o “Unfaithful” de Rihanna. Escuchando la canción, esas referencias, más que unas elegidas al azar o ser las más famosas, parecían ajenas a la inocencia y enmarcan, dan contexto y ofrecían todo el repertorio de sentimientos y sensaciones que uno debía sentir, como si esta fuera un repuesto actual de aquellas, un eslabón más en esa cadena de grandes canciones, como si un par de productores decidieran sentarse y ponerse a sonar “emotivos y atemporales” como quien decide vestirse para salir a comprar el pan a la calle.* Oh bueno, les pagan generosas sumas de dinero para que lo hagan así. Pero la pregunta tonta del día, es si cuando estoy cambiando de canales y me encuentro a mitad de ese video de Beyonce y una lagrimita se me escapa y rueda por la mejilla y pienso que lo hago por la emoción de encontrarme con alguien al que he querido y respetado es “¿en qué basé mi amor y mi respeto?” ¿Fue un descubrimiento (una búsqueda, una aventura) o un encuentro lógico (una elección, un producto más en el mercado)?
Ahora toca el párrafo en el que hablamos sobre como basamos nuestras emociones en el reconocimiento de signos reconocibles a los que damos un significado y como ello puede degenerar en una apreciación desmesurada, hasta llegar a identificar los unos con la otra, o preguntarse que cual es la bondad de la “emotividad” frente a un discurso intelectual. Sí. Tema nuevo.

*Actualmente cuatro de esas cuatro canciones fueron escritas por Ne-Yo. Pensé en citar una quinta gran canción de Ne-Yo (“Let Me Love You” de Mario), pero estaba producida por Scott Storch. Y por las dudas, esta canción de Chris Brown no está escrita por este hombre, sino por otro de los grandes escritores de canciones en el mainstream del R&B, Johnta Austin.
